Founding Story
Growing up in Malaysia, some of Rowena Scherer’s fondest memories were in the kitchen cooking alongside her family. The aroma of spices, the sound of butter sizzling in a pan, and the joy of sharing meals together created a deep sense of connection — one she hoped to pass on to her own family.
But as a busy working mom on Wall Street, life often moved too fast for those meaningful moments. Family dinners became rushed, and opportunities to cook together were rare.
Everything changed during a family vacation, when Rowena took a cooking class with her children. She watched their faces light up with excitement as they learned - but she also noticed something surprising: they struggled with even basic kitchen skills, like cutting an onion. In that moment, she realized that cooking was more than just preparing food; it was an essential life skill and a powerful gateway to understanding different cultures and the world around us.
Inspired by that experience, Rowena left her corporate career to create eat2explore - an experiential way for people of all ages to cook, learn, and connect through global cuisine. What began as a mission to help families raise culturally curious children has grown into a broader movement that also helps adults rediscover the joy of cooking, explore new cultures, and create meaningful shared experiences at home.

Rowena Scherer is the Founder and CEO of eat2explore, an award-winning company that offers food and cultural experiential cooking kits designed to unite families through the joy of culinary adventures. These kits blend the discovery of global cultures and cuisines with fun learning. Rowena, who is also the author of the cookbook A Taste of The World: Celebrating Global Flavors, grew up cooking with her family in Malaysia. However, as a financial executive in New York City (working for JPMorgan in Asia and New York) and a parent of two, she forgot the joy of taking a break and cooking with her family. So, she decided to combine the things she treasured most - family, food, travel, and education - and create an opportunity for families like hers to discover cuisines and cultures from around the world while enjoying a shared meal together. Founded in 2018, eat2explore has been featured in Forbes, The New York Times, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed, and the Today Show, among other popular media, and is the recipient of the Parents’ Choice Foundation Gold Award. Rowena holds an EMBA from the NYU Stern Executive program and is a graduate of The French Culinary Institute.
