The brand is woman-owned and committed to making socially and environmentally responsible products of the highest quality, while dedicating profits to help make the world better.

Founding Story

Alisha Stephens founded umanos out of a deep passion for sustainability, intentional living, and the belief in the power of our daily routines. After spending years working in wellness and in the non-profit sector, where she led initiatives to fight poverty in East Africa, Alisha was inspired to create a brand that merged her dedication to social impact with her love for clean, conscious, purpose-driven products. She noticed a gap in the market for personal care products that were both elevated and sustainable—offering high-performing, non-toxic ingredients while remaining environmentally responsible. Determined to fill this void, Alisha launched umanos to inspire people to use their daily routines as a powerful force for good and help people transition from conventional toxin-laden products to clean alternatives that are as good for their health as they are for the world.


Alisha’s journey as a startup founder has been shaped by her commitment to conscious living and impact-driven entrepreneurship. And inspired by other do-good brands like Cotopaxi and Patagonia. umanos is more than just a personal care brand—it’s a reflection of Alisha’s belief that our daily routines can be transformative when infused with thoughtful design, quality ingredients, and a commitment to social and environmental good. 

Team Bios

Alisha Stephens is the Founder & CEO of umanos, a sustainable personal care brand with a social mission. Alisha spent two years working throughout South America and East Africa, where she saw first-hand the hardship resulting from the lack of basic resources like education and clean water. She has since dedicated herself to using business as force for good in order to champion both healthy and sustainable living and fight global poverty. Alisha combines her deep passion for business and philanthropy to improve the human condition. She currently lives in Seattle, WA with her husband, photographer and director Stanton J Stephens, and their adventurous dog Kai.
