Founding Story
Shortly after Rachel Breuhaus had her first child, she still enjoyed making home-cooked meals but found less energy for kitchen tasks. Her hands were full, and she was tired! To avoid handwashing a wooden spoon, she’d reach for her silicone spatula instead - despite its fluorescent orange color. Dealing with parchment paper or aluminum foil to line a baking sheet was now a chore.
After becoming aware that silicone is non-toxic, reusable, dishwasher-safe, and can withstand temperatures up to 450 degrees, she fell in love with silicone kitchen tools and accessories. But as she looked to add more to her collection, the options leaned toward fluorescent, rainbow colors.
Wishing she could find high-quality silicone tools in a neutral palette that would complement her modern white kitchen, inspiration struck, and The Silicone Kitchen was born!

You might be surprised to learn that I did not attend culinary school or am a particularly inspired cook. Instead, I prefer approachable recipes and enjoy weekly meal kit deliveries. So where, then, did the inspiration for The Silicone Kitchen come from?
Shortly after having my first child, my hands were full, my eyes so very tired, I found myself always skipping over all the utensils to find my silicone spatula. While I was glad to continue to enjoy home-cooked meals, I simply did not have the bandwidth to hand wash the wooden spoons or worry that we might leave a plastic utensil too close to the stovetop, to later find it half melted. Don’t even get me started on wrangling aluminum foil or parchment paper when making homemade French fries. When I realized silicone was non-toxic, reusable, dishwasher-safe, AND could withstand temperatures up to 450°F, my love for silicone kitchen tools and accessories was born.
The problem? My silicone spatula was fluorescent orange. It stuck out like a bright caution cone in a modern white kitchen. When I looked to add more silicone kitchen accessories to my collection, it was clear the options all leaned fluorescent, rainbow colors. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a good rainbow aesthetic, but while drowning in a sea of bright-colored baby and toddler toys, I was desperate for a neutral color palette that would complement my kitchen (and allow a small semblance of adults still living in our house). Thus, The Silicone Kitchen was born.
While I may not be a culinary sensation, I am a busy mom to three young boys, and I don’t want to sacrifice functionality or aesthetics. I want to enjoy home-cooked meals, but I don’t want to spend more time doing the dishes than I have to. So, maybe you’re like me, wanting to save time cleaning, save space in your kitchen (goodbye bulky muffin tin, sayonara colander!), and do your part (however slight it may feel) to make eco-friendly swaps. Whether you’re an occasional baker, a young child learning to love cooking, or a classically trained chef, we hope The Silicone Kitchen provides you with silicone kitchen tools and accessories that are as beautiful and functional as your kitchen.
Thank you for joining me on this journey and supporting my woman-owned, small business.
