Our Beginning
Paul & Shark’s journey is one of heritage, innovation, and an unbreakable bond with the sea. It all began on March 4, 1957, when Gian Ludovico Dini acquired Maglificio Dacò, a historic mill founded in 1921. Under his leadership, the company flourished, overseeing every step of production—from sourcing the finest yarns to delivering impeccably crafted garments worldwide, forming partnerships with icons like Christian Dior and Balenciaga.
A Journey, An Inspiration
In the early 1970s, Paolo (Paul) Dini, Gian Ludovico’s eldest son, embarked on a fateful trip to Maine. In a small sailmaker’s workshop, he discovered an old 18th-century clipper sail inscribed with the words "Paul & Shark." That moment sparked the vision for a brand that would embody the spirit of the ocean, the resilience of seafarers, and the timeless elegance of Italian craftsmanship.
From a Single Sweater to a Global Icon
By the mid-1970s, Paul & Shark embraced the world of yachting and outdoor adventure, launching a collection that seamlessly blended performance and luxury. In 1978, the iconic C0P918 sailing sweater was born—crafted for durability and water resistance, packaged in a distinctive metal case inspired by seafaring traditions.
