Honolulu, HI – August 16, 2024 – NOHO HOME by Jalene Kanani announces the launch of its "Legacy of Aloha" program, a visionary initiative designed to celebrate the rich heritage and creative spirit of Hawai'i and its people who have built a legacy through the embodiment of Aloha.
NOHO HOME kicks off Legacy of Aloha through an exciting collaboration with the legendary Melveen Leed, world-renowned for her illustrious singing career. For the first time ever, Melveen’s private drawings, a hobby she has cherished since childhood, will be transformed into fabric designs and shared with the public.
This exclusive collection debuts at the 30th Annual Made in Hawaiʻi Festival on August 23, 2024, marking the inaugural release under NOHO HOME’s Legacy of Aloha mākeke. The assortment includes beautifully crafted decorative pillowcases, an exclusive wrap, and an heirloom throw, all featuring Melveen’s unique and never-before-seen artwork.
"A legacy of aloha has profoundly influenced my life and travels," said Melveen Leed. "For over 40 years, I've performed in Japan. These drawings are a reflection of my journey. My experiences have allowed me to share my music across the country, enriching my artistry and connecting me to the heart of the culture."
Born and raised on Molokaʻi, Melveen Leed has captivated audiences worldwide with her music. While many know her as a celebrated singer, few are aware of her lifelong passion for drawing. Since childhood, Melveen has sketched as a form of personal expression, but these artworks have never been publicly shared—until now.
"Growing up in Moloka'i, I always had a pencil in my hand and paper to express myself through art, starting from kindergarten," Melveen recalled. "I never took any lessons; I simply drew what was in my mind. My teachers were often amazed, asking if I had drawn it myself or if it was done by someone else."
Jalene Kanani, Founder and CEO of NOHO HOME, shared her enthusiasm for this collaboration: "I wanted to give our island treasures an opportunity to continue sharing their talents, creativity, and their legacy of aloha, while exploring how we can support community economic development through licensing and collaboration. We are honored to partner with the legendary Melveen Leed in bringing her artistic vision to life through our Legacy of Aloha platform. This collaboration is a celebration of her incredible talent, connection to Hawai’i, and her desire to share aloha, which inspires us both.”
