My Mindful Kitchen is dedicated to helping eco-conscious families reduce food waste, save money, and make mindful food choices. Founded by Janet, a former restaurant owner and instructor at the Culinary Institute of America, the initiative emphasizes the power of mindfulness in reconnecting with core values like gratitude, care for others, and environmental kindness. The MMK Method includes 8 pillars designed to encourage sustainable habits and creativity in the kitchen, transforming meal preparation into an enjoyable and meaningful activity while saving money.

Founding Story

Janet didn’t fully grasp the profound ways our food choices shape our lives until she created the My Mindful Kitchen (MMK) Method.


Her love for food began early. Growing up, her mom’s passion for cooking and her inability to pass up a farmers’ market left a lasting impression on Janet. That love for food carried into Janet’s own family, where it became central to their lives.


In fact, whenever Janet’s husband or kids raved about a meal, she’d ask, “Do you know why it’s so good?” and they’d exclaim in harmony, “Because it was made with love.”


Beyond her home, food has been the cornerstone of Janet’s career. She spent over 25 years owning and operating three full-service restaurants, volunteered and raised significant funds for organizations fighting hunger, and wrote extensively about sustainable food practices.


Today, she has the privilege of teaching at the Culinary Institute of America. Her background in science and education, combined with years of conversations with farmers, chefs, food entrepreneurs, and sustainability leaders, has given Janet a unique perspective on food and the far-reaching impact of our food choices. This also fostered a deep respect for both the natural and human resources it takes to get food to the kitchen table.


My Mindful Kitchen (MMK) represents the culmination of everything Janet has learned—a method to make meaningful food choices by blending her extensive experience in the food industry with mindfulness practices she’s cultivated over the years. These practices have brought more awareness, balance, and fulfillment to her own life.


As she continues to develop the MMK method, Janet realizes more and more just how deeply food connects us to our core values. Mindful food choices aren’t solely about health—they also shape our emotional well-being.


Janet’s years of studying various mindful practices have taught her that when actions align with values, we feel good. Her passion for mindfulness has shown her that choosing food with intention and making thoughtful purchases not only benefits personal well-being, but also the health of the planet.

This fosters a sense of integrity and purpose that touches every part of life. She has also found that once someone becomes a mindful foodie, they’re always a mindful foodie—and her love for this has brought her here to spread the word so everyone can experience the joy and meaning she has found making mindful food choices.
