About
Lotus Foods is a company that began in 1995 and specializes in importing and promoting heirloom rice varieties from around the world. They are known for their commitment to preserving rice biodiversity, increasing farm incomes, and producing high-quality, organic rice products. Lotus Foods has introduced innovative rice-based products such as rice noodles, ramen, and heat-and-eat rice pouches, and they emphasize sustainable farming practices through their More Crop Per Drop® initiative. The company has received numerous awards and recognitions for their contributions to the specialty food industry.
Founding Story
In 1995
Lotus Foods began importing black rice, calling it Forbidden Rice® after the Forbidden City, the Chinese Imperial palace. They wanted to share their love affair with heirloom rice with American consumers. If Americans loved the exciting colors and tastes of rice from around the world as much as they did, they could help preserve rice biodiversity, increase farm incomes, and improve sustainability. It worked!
