Over 200 years ago, the Lindemans family began brewing beer on a small farm in Belgium’s Pajottenland region. Since then, our knowledge, passion, and time-honored recipes have been passed down through six generations.

We stay true to the ancient art of spontaneous (or 'wild’) fermentation. The unique air of our region, rich with specific, naturally occurring wild yeast strains, makes this area of Belgium the only place where authentic lambic beer can be brewed, giving our beer its signature, slightly sour character.

Founding Story

Francisca Josina Vandersmissen was born in Hof ter Kwadewegen in Belgium's Pajottenland on a proverbial bed of hops and malt. The region’s noble beer lineage flowed freely through her veins. Years later, her beauty captivated a young Joos Frans Lindemans. In 1822, the young couple was wed and moved into the Vandersmissen farm brewery. Soon after, they started their family and began to brew lambic beer. Thus, Lindemans Brewery was born.

Since 1822, six generations of pioneers have succeeded each other, first as farmer-brewers, then - starting in the second half of the 1950s - as just brewers. Under the influence of these six generations of Lindemans, our brewery has become one of the leading producers of lambic in the region and in the world.
