Who We Are: At House of Amao, our mission is to explore the art of luxury and ambiance, the toxin-free way. We are a home fragrance company focused on creating handcrafted products with reduced toxicity, and zero waste in mind. To kick off this journey, we began with creating original in-house scented candles with plant based wax that do not trigger headaches or allergies.
Frankly, we have incredibly high standards and would not offer products we wouldn't use in our own homes.
What You Get: The House of Amao candles burn cleanly and evenly, ensuring no tunneling or wax wastage. Every candle also comes with a crackling wooden wick, which enables our customers to tap into a luxurious, long lasting, multi-sensorial experience with our products. To ensure our scented candles meet our high quality standards, we use:
Luxurious coconut apricot wax (skin safe, plant based, sustainably derived, and does not have the same deforestation impact that soy does or the toxins found in paraffin wax)
Crackling wooden wicks (for that extra zen moment)
Fragrance oils that are free of phthalates, and parabens
In-house scents - We aim for originality! In fact, 95% of our scents are created in-house to ensure your homes smells amazing, yet unique
No artificial colors are used in making our candles
Reusable jars and cleanable wax - our candles burn so cleanly and evenly due to the premium wax we use that it is incredibly easy to clean spilled, cooled wax (just wipe with a wet towel) or reuse our jars (clean with hot water and soap).
If our candles could speak, this is what they would say: We love making homes feel calm, joyful, and fulfilling because life can be hectic as is so there's no use getting worked up over your candles too.
Founding Story
Launched in August 2023, House of Amao was born from a place of necessity. Over the past 4-5 years, we had not burned a single candle, or used a scented plug-in due to the effects they had on my husband. Once I light a candle, he would be right behind me blowing it out because it would end up causing him headaches and allergies that would result in him being in bed for a day or two. I also became very conscious of what we bring into our home after our daughter was born and have tried to systematically remove/reduce known toxins in our home.
As a result, I embarked on a journey to create candles and fragrances that did NOT trigger headaches, allergies, create that horrible smell after it's blown out, or even create that odd sensation you get in the back of your throat while/after burning.
Now here's where my personal motto comes in: Just because we aim for reduced toxicity, does not mean our products shouldn't be top quality! Our candles are of high quality and our scents have incredible depth and range. Most of them have been compared to high end quality.
In our search, House of Amao was born, with "Amao" being a combo of our daughter's first and last name!
Here's our hope - we hope that our home of fragrances will awaken or elevate your senses as we simply aim to make your space feel MORE — that is, more inviting, more cozy, and more awakened.
Juliet is the founder and owner of House of Amao, a luxury candle company dedicated to making all spaces smell incredible without the effects of headaches or allergy triggers, while also tapping into as many senses as possible (sight, smell, touch, hearing).
With a career in managerial consulting, and product delivery strategy, Juliet loved using candles for her project downtime and me-moments. However, the idea of House of Amao was planted when Juliet realized she had not burned a candle, used a home diffuser or even brought home fresh flowers in over 4 years because her husband would have horrible allergies that ended with him in bed, not able to do much. The true catalyst was when she became a new mom and felt she needed an in-home oasis if you will, a true time to herself. Though she would have thankful quiet moments here and there, it was obvious something was missing. She realized how much the incredible sense of smell was severely underused in her home due to just "giving up" on candles and worrying about its effects on her husband. As she wished and longed for scented candles that had depth and she could light in her home, she simply decided to stop wishing and instead, do something about it. Alas, House of Amao was born.
As the birth of their child was the truest catalyst to prioritizing her self care, Juliet chose to name the company House of Amao, with the thought of her scents making anywhere feel as cozy as home, and Amao being the combination of her daughter's first and last name.
