About
Evergreen is a fast-growing, better-for-you breakfast brand on a mission to redefine the frozen breakfast aisle. Evergreen offers a more ingredient-conscious take on a classic freezer staple, without sacrificing on flavor. The brand prioritizes simple, recognizable ingredients, featuring 100% whole grains, avocado oil (instead of seed oils) and real hidden veggies that families can feel good about.
Evergreen's lineup includes both Mini and Thick & Fluffy waffles in a variety of craveable flavors. Minis come in options like Peanut Butter Banana, Apple Cinnamon Cobbler, Chocolate Brownie, Zucchini Carrot Cake and Mixed Berry Cobbler. The Thick & Fluffy line is now available in four flavors: Homestyle, Blueberry, Chocolate and our newest, Cinnamon Swirl.
Evergreen was founded in 2020 by Emily Groden, a former lawyer turned food entrepreneur who started the brand after struggling to find clean, nutritious breakfast options for her daughter. While at Harvard, Emily studied in the Food Law and Policy Clinic, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges within the U.S. food system. Emily founded Evergreen with no prior experience in consumer packaged goods, no team, and no institutional backing. What began as a late-night project has grown into a company now sold in over 8,500 stores nationwide including Whole Foods Market, Kroger and Sprouts as well as select Walmarts and Target locations.
Evergreen has also earned recognition as one of Inc. 5000’s Fastest Growing Companies in America, a Good Housekeeping 2025 Best Snack Award winner, and a 2025 NOSH Rising Star.
Founding Story
Evergreen was founded in 2020 by Emily Groden, a former lawyer turned food entrepreneur who started the brand after struggling to find clean, nutritious breakfast options for her daughter. While at Harvard, Emily studied in the Food Law and Policy Clinic, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges within the U.S. food system and learned that fewer than 10% of American kids eat the daily recommended intake of vegetables. When searching for quick and easy options for her first daughter, Emily realized that most frozen waffles were full of ingredients she couldn’t pronounce. Emily began making waffles in her home kitchen, blending fruits, vegetables, nuts and other whole ingredients, freezing the waffles to use throughout the week and sharing them with friends. After some encouragement, Emily began offering samples of her waffles at local Chicago corner markets, and to her surprise, landed a test with Whole Foods to sell her waffles at their Illinois stores. Evergreen has steadily scaled to meet evolving consumer demand and is now sold in over 8,500 stores nationwide, expanding beyond its original Mini Waffles into Thick & Fluffy waffles, with pancakes and protein lines both slated to hit shelves in summer 2026.

Emily Groden
Founder & CEO
Emily Groden is the founder & CEO of Evergreen, one of America’s fastest-growing frozen breakfast companies. Emily started Evergreen in 2020 because she wanted a better breakfast for her growing family. When searching for quick and easy options for her first daughter, Emily realized that most frozen waffles were full of ingredients she couldn’t pronounce. Instead of settling, she began crafting her own waffles from real foods like fruits, veggies, and whole grains. What started as a late-night passion project turned into a mission: to make genuinely nourishing food more convenient for busy families. Five years later, Evergreen is sold in 8,500 stores nationwide, from Whole Foods and Sprouts to select Walmarts and Targets. Emily’s story has been featured by Good Morning America, The Today Show, and The Wall Street Journal, among other publications.
Inc. named Evergreen and founder Emily Cole Groden among its 2025 Best in Business Challenger Brands and Business Leaders of the Year, where Groden was recognized alongside leaders including Larry Ellison, Dario Amodei, Alexis Ohanian and Jenni Kayne — and stood out as one of only two food leaders and the only food CPG founder honored. Evergreen also earned a 2025 Rising Star award from NOSH, joining the ranks of breakout brands like Graza, Rind Snacks and Goodles, was named to the 2026 Foremost 50 challenger list alongside brands including David, Fishwife, Hiya and Joyride, and was recently ranked the 22nd fastest-growing brand on Instacart.
Prior to founding Evergreen, Emily worked for Chef Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas as the General Counsel for The Alinea Group and Tock. Before her pivot into the hospitality industry, Emily practiced law at Kirkland & Ellis as a corporate associate focused on mergers and acquisitions. A lifelong athlete with a passion for food, Emily was a Division I swimmer and is an Ironman finisher and Boston Marathon qualifier. Emily graduated cum laude from Yale College and Harvard Law School. She currently lives in Glencoe with her husband and two daughters, Evergreen’s number one fans.
