Downeast Coffee Roasters is a 3rd generation family-owned company bringing you proprietary blends as well as extraordinary single-origin coffees from around the globe.

Three generations ago, the Downeast name was inspired by nautical journeys along the East Coast. Today, we still strive to transport you at every sip — to crisp fall days, ocean sunrises, cozy cabins, and quiet backroads — your favorite New England moments.

What sets us apart? Our unwavering commitment to taste and quality. Our coffees are intentionally sourced and roasted — farmed fairly and sustainably.

We are Downeast Coffee Roasters — one family, sourcing, roasting, and crafting the region’s best coffee since 1953.

Founding Story

We are a 3rd-generation, family-owned and operated organization, rooted in the rich heritage and rugged charm of New England.

Our founder, Michael G. Kapos, started it all in 1953 with the belief that coffee connects people — creating meaningful moments and strengthening communities. His son, Bill, and grandson, Mike, are now carrying on his legacy in historic Pawtucket, RI, where they are innovating and growing the business while staying true to their roots; practicing the timeless art of handcrafting coffee for friends, family, and neighbors.

Mike Kapos

Vice President, Sales & Marketing

Mike Kapos is a 3rd generation owner-operator of Downeast Coffee Roasters and serves as the company's Vice President for Sales & Marketing. After starting his career in finance and the tech startup world, Mike’s tenure at Downeast began in 2010, when he felt a calling to help keep his family’s traditions alive while also jumping on the opportunity to innovate and grow the then-60 year old business in new and exciting areas.

Since joining the company, Mike has led a full rebrand and expanded its offerings most notably by launching the Reserve line, which has seen explosive growth, exploring new qualities of coffee and roasting capabilities. He also initiated the kegged cold brew program with great success, as well as Downeast’s direct-to-consumer website business.

Mike resides in his hometown of Pawtucket, RI with his wife and two young sons. When he's not in the office or the roasting plant, you can find him enjoying life on the water in the Ocean State!
