Inspired by life’s simple moments, APOTHEKE believes that scent can transform a house into a home, elevate every mood, and help keep memories alive. What began in 2011 as a personal exploration of scent formulation and soap making in the Brooklyn, New York, kitchen of founder Chrissy Fichte, has grown into a widely recognized and beloved luxury lifestyle fragrance brand. True to its Brooklyn roots and contemporary ethos, APOTHEKE believes that simplicity is the ultimate expression of luxury. Appreciate and celebrate life’s simplest yet most special moments every day with APOTHEKE’s ever-expanding collection of home and personal fragrances and products.All products are made in-house at APOTHEKE’s Red Hook factory using clean ingredients and artisanal techniques. From fresh botanicals to smoky woods, each fragrance is developed with top perfumers to create an immersive experience. APOTHEKE has become a cult favorite through creative collaborations with brands like J.Crew and Shake Shack, and through its flagship store and APOTHEKE Studio—New York’s first immersive candle-making experience. The brand is available at Nordstrom, West Elm, Bloomingdale’s, and Crate & Barrel, and has been featured in Vogue, Bon Appétit, Forbes, and Architectural Digest.

Founding Story

The name APOTHEKE came unexpectedly. When Founder Chrissy Fichtl was first making soap in her farmhouse kitchen in the Hamptons, a friend from Europe sent her a package of essential oils. Inside was a note that read: “To my little apothecary.” The note stuck with her. Apotheke—the German word for pharmacy—not only reflected Chrissy’s heritage, but captured the deeper purpose behind what she was making. Like a traditional apothecary, Chrissy was blending ingredients by hand to create something that could soothe, restore, and uplift. However, instead of tinctures and tonics, she was crafting scent—fragrances designed to transform a space, shift a mood, and transform the everyday. APOTHEKE became more than just a name—it became the philosophy for the brand, which focuses on fragrance as a form of self-care, and that even the smallest rituals can have a meaningful impact.

Chrissy Fichtl is the founder of APOTHEKE, a Brooklyn-based fragrance brand known for its handcrafted candles, soaps, and thoughtfully blended scents. An entrepreneur at heart, Chrissy’s passion for soap-making, scent formulation, and essential oils led her to establish APOTHEKE in 2011. Her journey began in the fashion industry, where she worked in manufacturing before opening a small shop in the Hamptons. There, she discovered the art of essential oils, sourcing ingredients directly from farms and teaching herself soap-making and fragrance blending in her own kitchen. By 2012, APOTHEKE had outgrown its beginnings, opening a 3,000-square-foot factory in Brooklyn. In 2021, the brand expanded further with a 10,000-square-foot facility and its first flagship store in the same neighborhood, marking a new chapter while staying true to its roots. Today, APOTHEKE’s candles and soaps are still made by hand, and each fragrance is carefully blended in Brooklyn. The brand is available at leading retailers, including Nordstrom, West Elm, Bloomingdale’s, and Crate & Barrel. Chrissy lives in Brooklyn with her husband and Co-Founder, Sebastian Picasso, their two daughters, and two dogs.
