Welcome to Hook Daily, Press Hook's daily article selection that those in the industry need to read. Whether it's insight from journalists or publicists, trends that should be on your radar, or ways to change up your work habits, we've scoured the internet to find the news you can use.

Today's pick: "For Gen Z, TikTok Is the New Search Engine" from the New York Times

If you've been ignoring TikTok, you're not alone, but though it has garnered a reputation as a silly viral video app, Gen Z is putting the platform to use in an entirely different way, which means it's time to give it the attention it deserves.

When they need to solve a problem, find a recommendation, or learn the answer to a pressing question, Gen Z is increasingly turning to TikTok and using it as a search engine, rather than heading to Google. And if that's where they're finding their information, then that's where businesses want to be. Head to the NYT website to read more about what users are looking for (and finding) on TikTok and why you should have a presence there.

When it comes to travel or trends in fashion, beauty, etc., I’m honestly WAY more likely to use TikTok than Google. Mostly because you get more of a visual, and don’t have to read (sometimes) unnecessary/irrelevant information that Google might give! Fact wise, I still trust Google more, or at least fact-check with Google!

I think anything you want to see a video of, TikTok is where it's at. Like a quick makeup tutorial or how to put together your breast pump (clearly things I've searched lol) but for facts I'm all google. I mean webMD doesn't have. TikTok do they? Haha.

Gen Z is for sure more ~ visually ~ motivated. TikTok and Pinterest are the go to when it comes to travel, trends, recipes, etc. I am personally a right-brain oriented learner, so I gravitate to more visuals, but Google is still relevant for search engines in my opinion. Visual platforms like TikTok and Pinterest serve the immediate visual gratification + shorter time span attention, but Google will always remain a factual source for more in depth research.
