The College Beauty Awards:


Based on months of testing the best products for college women, and polling our college beauty obsessives to find out what they love most, the College Beauty Awards highlight products that check all the boxes for college women: they're at a reasonable price point, they're Instagram-worthy, they deliver the best results, and they come from brands and partners that our readers legitimately love using and supporting.


The College Beauty Awards could cover anything and everything under the beautysphere, falling under the following ten categories:

  • Best Haircare Trends of 2022 
  • Best Bodycare Trends of 2022
  • Sunday Recovering Skincare
  • TikTok Told Me To
  • Dorm Essentials
  • Night Out Makeup
  • Drugstore Finds 
  • Morning Routine
  • Nighttime Routine


This year, we’re looking to highlight cruelty-free beauty, clean/sustainable beauty, small businesses, and female- and POC-owned brands as much as possible. 


The final package will be the definitive list of official recommendations that college women can rely on across every beauty category, whether they're looking to shop an affordable acne solution or just want to know the best long-lasting lipstick.

If your product is selected by, Her Campus Media, testers must be received by April 15th 2022.


All submissions that are approved to move forward will be required to send out their product(s) to a minimum of three of our student testers, to allow for multiple skin types/hair types/etc. to review them. The editor in charge of each category would also welcome samples, but brands are not required to send them to editors, and sending samples to editors will have no impact on the final winners list. 


Finalists will be contacted in mid-September and editors will keep all submissions in mind – even if they aren’t deemed a winner here – for future projects.

All of our products are 100% vegan. It's a high priority for us that our products are formulated in a non-toxic, vegan, and completely cruelty-free way. We use no animal products, or animal testing, in the creation of our packaging or products.

Does your brand consider itself to be sustainable? If yes, why?

Yes, all our ingredients are ethically and sustainably sourced. When creating GlowRx, Lorraine wanted to find natural ingredients that connect with her heritage of being half-Rwandan and half-Ugandan. African beauty harnesses the power of nature as a beauty solution, so using cold-pressed, authentic ingredients and other derivatives of nature are hidden treasures.

Yes, because all of our ingredients are vegan and non-toxic. We focus on using mild botanical ingredients to allow consumers to rest easy, knowing our products don't contain harmful chemicals, parabens, or animal products.

GlowRx fits into the Glowy Skin trend because using their products will give you that glowy and dewy look without an overcomplicated skincare routine. We are focused on hydration from the inside out to let your true glow shine through.

All products are 100% truly vegan and botanical based, and stands against using bacteria-derived or animal-derived hyaluronic acid: instead use a formulation of ingredients that either promote healthy hyaluronic acid production from your own skin cells and aloe vera & guar gum for plant-derived polysaccharides. For this same reason, Belfiore Herbal products contain Carotinol (vitamin A from plants such as carrots, pumpkins, and marigold) instead of animal-derived Retinol.

  • Does your brand have any giveback initiatives? Belfiore Herbal works with Augustina & Janet Boachie to purchase and import authentic Ghanaian Shea Butter from the markets of Accra, Ghana. Through their arrangement, Augustina & Janet buy directly from a collective of female farmers who harvest, process, and sell the Shea Butter to earn extra income on top of their current farming duties. This extra income funds educational opportunities in the farming village. In addition, once our import with Augustina & Janet is complete, Belfiore Herbal donates 20% of the final cost back to the female farm collective.

Does your brand consider itself to be sustainable? If yes, why? Yes. The idea of sustainability, consciously sourced inputs

(ingredients, packaging etc.) and protection of the environment is central to our ethos. To us, “sustainable” is

broader than just the ingredients and packaging. It also means that the rights and wellbeing of all participants

(artisans and workers) are protected along the length of the value chain and the business operates in a way that helps

create better outcomes for the ecosystem that we operate in. For example, we don’t use conflict minerals, or any

ingredients made with child labor or environmentally destructive practices in any of our products. And we don’t

test on animals (ever).

We’ve worked with about 40 ingredient suppliers ranging from global behemoths to small independent suppliers and

did our diligence to work only with reputable suppliers committed to responsible sourcing. The products were

purposefully created, the brand is conscious about the environment, and this is reflected in several decisions – such as:

  • Use of glass and sustainable packaging wherever possible
  • We opted to not do single-use / samples and opted for reusable, mini glass sample jars instead
  • We use FSC paper for our packaging cartons

We believe a business must make things better – not just for itself, but also for its employees, partners, consumers and

the environment.

Does your brand consider itself to be clean? If yes, why? Yes. To us, “clean beauty” means products made with

ingredients that are widely considered to be safe for humans. Our products use natural and synthetic ingredients

that are known to be safe and non-toxic. Hence, our products are free from artificial fragrance, artificial color,

parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and formaldehyde. They have been sourced consciously and are developed using stringent

clean beauty standards. In addition, we’ve vetted all ingredients against EWG’s Skin Deep database and we’ve also

conducted extensive testing, including Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT) with human volunteers to ensure

our products work even on the most sensitive skin.
