Founding Story
Yondjé Choi is the founder of OMA, a brand born from the intersection of her heritage as a Korean-French woman and her journey as a new mother living abroad for over 15 years.
Born and raised in Paris, Yondjé grew up immersed in the flavors of her mother’s homemade Korean dishes. These meals were lessons in nutrition, as she learned the specific health benefits behind every ingredient. However, as her career took her to New York, she found that the demands of being a professional and a mother left her with little time to recreate the restorative, slow-simmered broths of her childhood.
OMA came after a difficult pregnancy. Following Korean postpartum tradition, Yondjé’s mother traveled to New York to prepare miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) for her every single day. This daily act of maternal care led to a remarkably fast recovery and a profound realization: the world needed access to this healing power. She founded OMA meaning “mother” in Korean to reimagine these ancient wellness rituals for the modern world.
A Strong Technical Foundation What distinguishes OMA in the wellness space is its unique leadership. Yondjé is joined by her husband, also a former Googler, as co-founder. Together, they have transformed OMA into a true family business backed by Tech experience.
Having both spent over a decade at Google specializing eCommerce for DTC brands, the duo brings a level of executional "know-how" rarely seen in the food industry. This shared expertise has allowed them to bypass traditional hurdles, accelerating OMA’s trajectory as a fast-growing, digitally-native brand.
By blending deep cultural authenticity Yondjé and her husband are building a modern wellness brand, making homemade nourishment accessible anytime, anywhere.

Meet the New Generation of Instant Foods
OMA’s tastes as close as you’ll get to homemade miyeok-guk, seaweed soup. Korean seaweed soup is a cozy dish long heralded for its nutritive properties. These dehydrated miyeokguk cubes are made with natural seaweed and beef bone broth. Unlike many sodium-filled instant soups, Oma’s (named after the Korean word for mother) tastes as close as you’ll get to homemade: balanced, well-seasoned, and utterly comforting. After rehydrating the block with a cup of boiling water, let it sit covered for two minutes before stirring. Add steamed rice for the full Korean effect.
